I just finished reading Talese's memoir. In many ways, he's just like the rest of us. Editors shoot down his stories. (One even killed a story because she didn't "learn anything new.") He, of course, stands out in his thoroughness and nose for narrative. I would love to see him write more for magazines, but I guess there's only so much time in the world.
